Week Off and Excuses
If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I'd like to do ...
We took the week off recording, and, in the back of my head, I was supposed to use the time to pop down to St. George to visit dad for a day and a half, but I totally did not do that.
It was my 49th (!) birthday on Tuesday, and I “celebrated” on Monday because I had to work on Tuesday. Tiffany got me an awesome air fryer, and we made poutine for dinner - which was AWESOME! Kylah & Matthias both stopped by work on Tuesday, at different times, and brought me food. These people get me.
On the non-air fryer side, Kylah got me a coffee mug that’s big enough to wear as a helmet, and Tiffany & Brinlee got me a Star Trek Bluetooth Comm Badge (awesome) and … a Joel Osteen motivational phrase speaker thingy that - at the touch of a button - plays bullshit church phrases and sermons from that piece of shit pile of human garbage. It’s going to compete with the screaming goat on The LEFT Show for a little while, at least.
All in all, including Tiffany constantly singing “50 minus 1” and giggling at me, it was a pretty nice and relaxing weekend off.
On the other hand, taking a week off recording does tend to crawl up over the top of me, and cause feelings of guilt and anxiety. Recording is a hard habit at this point, and I’ve never been good at taking time off of anything, really. Downtime isn’t my natural state, I guess. Even during longer stretches of unemployment, I’m always building or designing new products that ultimately suffer when I’m working.
I got an email this week asking after a few different things that are on hiatus.
J.M. and Tom Roast Everything
Red Light, Green Light
Tell Me A Story
MANSplaining
The Sidetrack
Simple answer is: I don’t have time right now. I’m working full time, in school part time, and trying to read the entirety of The Wheel of Time before the TV series kicks off in November. Tom and Jason are both busy with their own lives, which takes care of Roast & Sidetrack. Red Light, Green Light was audience participation - that popped and fizzled - and had a video component that I just never got working well enough that I was satisfied with the final look. It’s still in my head, and I’m going to try again at the end of the year. It’ll be seasonal, I think, because in the summer, the sound of the A/C is too much, and I hate being hot. Tell Me A Story, I don’t have any excuses for, aside from time. I miss that show. MANSplaining is a time issues, as well. Doing the research and writing the spots is a wonderfully fulfilling time eater that I just can’t be doing a shitty job with. Of all the shows and programs, MANSplaining deserves meticulous attention and care, and since I can’t do it right, I’m leaving it in hibernation for the time being.
Okay. That should catch us up for the moment, and I apologize that this was a couple of days (a week) late, but this is the first time I’ve been able to sit and collect my thoughts this week.
Thanks for reading! See on Sunday, I hope.
